UK Steel Manufacturer Seeks Savings
UK’s largest Steel manufacturer reached out to Industrial Hydraulic Services to come up with an energy-saving solution for their Entry Hydraulics ring main system.
Analysis of the Current System
I.H.S engineers’ first duty was to carry out a full feasibility study plotting flow, pressure, current & power loads as well as fully mapping out the system cycles during varying products.
Once I.H.S had charted and studied the relevant data they produced a full detailed report including analysis, energy/ cost saving projections as well as timescale analysis, a return on investment report, and a technology study.
This gave our customer a full vision of the current system operation and savings that could be achieved. I.H.S engineers then produced a full Turnkey solution using ABB SynRm variable speed IE5 motors coupled to Rexroth A10VZO140 variable displacement piston pumps to allow the system to control both flow and pressure within the design.
The system included a large accumulator bank to increase energy efficiencies and make up for system losses during idle periods. I.H.S engineers undertook all activities including analysis, design, manufacture, installation and commissioning in-house.
Actual Cost Savings
At the time of the analysis report, it was calculated that over £30,000 of savings would be achieved per year. These savings have almost tripled over the past years due to the rocketing prices of energy. The CO2 emissions reduction was also calculated at nearly 70,000Kg’s per year.
